What Live Index publishes today is national data drawn from federal statistical agencies, documented before it is published: source series, observation period, retrieval date, units and derivation. Research datasets built from our own collection are specifications, not releases.

National indicators

National indicators from federal statistical agencies

The current published Live Index dataset: admissions prices against the general price level, household spending on live entertainment, performing arts employment, and the promoter and live-event workforce. Each series is stored as its agency released it and carries the source agency, series identifier, source URL, observation period and retrieval date.

Derived figures are arithmetic a reader can reproduce from the stored levels. No value is estimated to cover a period an agency has not published.

Historical prices

Historical concert ticket prices

Sourced admission prices from the 1960s onward, each shown as it was charged and restated in current dollars using the consumer price index. Every record carries the publication it came from, the exact basis of the price and the index level applied.

These are individual benchmarks separated by decades, not a continuous price series. Face value is what a promoter set; resale, fees and dynamic pricing sit outside these records.

Representation Index

Artist and booking-agency representation register

Publicly verifiable artist–booking-agency relationships, each stored with its source document, publisher, publication date and the date Live Index last verified it. Published as a browsable register with JSON, CSV and graph downloads.

Measurement frameworks

Ticket Price Lifecycle

What a comparable seat costs at each stage between announcement and doors, with primary standard, premium or dynamic, and resale inventory kept in separate lanes. The schema, the comparability rules and the Presale Premium derivation are published; no observations have been collected.

The ten highest-ranked songs on the Billboard Hot 100, stored weekly as a dated record with the chart week, the retrieval date and Live Index’s own readings of repeat acts, movement and turnover. Chart facts only; Live Index does not compile the chart.

Festival price and affordability dataset

A compiled register of festival editions and the admission prices public sources printed for them. Each record carries festival identity, edition year and printed dates, city, state and country where a source stated them, genre classification, the price basis the figure rests on, the currency it was printed in, the amounts themselves, and the publisher, URL and retrieval date the figure was read from. Free admission is recorded as an evidence state rather than as a zero. Amounts are never converted between currencies and never pooled across bases, so the file is a provenance record of stated prices rather than a comparable price population.

Historical festival project record

A compiled record of documented historical festival projects, generated from the same typed archive the project pages render. Each edition carries its printed dates, day count, venue and place, the roster segments sources named, the person roles independent sources support, and every attendance, price and economic figure that was published for it. Measurements are stored with the measure type the publisher used, the party that produced the figure, the source identifier it was read from and any caveat that applies, so an attendance estimate, a model input and a paid-admission recollection stay three separate rows. Media entries carry URLs, credits and rights notes only; no third-party file is redistributed. Nothing is audited, averaged or interpolated, and a year with no published figure carries no measurement row.
