Variables measured

• Permanent catalog identity for the festival edition
• Festival name, edition year and dates exactly as printed
• City, state or region and country where a source stated them
• Primary and secondary genre, with the basis of the classification
• Price basis: current, free, historical median, historical single or none
• Currency, low, high and median amounts as printed
• Price source publisher, URL and retrieval date
• Official festival website where a source linked one

What this dataset cannot show

• Stated prices are what a public page printed. They are not verified Live Index checkout observations, they usually exclude taxes and mandatory fees, and they do not enter the festival value or affordability scores.
• Single-day, multi-day and full-festival admission are not separated in this release, so the amounts are not a comparable price population.
• Amounts are never converted between currencies, and no cross-currency aggregate is published.
• Historical median and historical single figures describe prior editions. They exist so the browse guide can show something defensible and are excluded from every present-day coverage figure.
• Coverage follows what publishers documented, not a sampling frame. It is not an exhaustive census of festivals in any country.

First public release of the compiled price corpus, matching the extract behind The State of Live Music Affordability 2026.

Access

The dataset is released in full. Both files are generated from the same records this page counts, in the field order the data dictionary sets out, so a figure here and a row in a download cannot diverge. The JSON release carries the coverage block, the caveats and the dictionary alongside the rows; the CSV carries the rows alone.

Citation and reuse

Two things are being reused here and they should be attributed separately. The compilation — the identities, the classification, the price basis and the provenance fields — is Live Index work and should be cited as the dataset below. The prices themselves belong to the publishers named in price_source_publisher, and a figure quoted on its own should credit that publisher and the retrieval date beside it.

Reuse is permitted with attribution to Live Index and a link to this page. No DOI or other persistent identifier has been minted for this release, so none is asserted in the citation or the structured data.
