Does AEG Own Goldenvoice? Coachella's Control Stack, Role by Role
The Coachella ownership question is really three questions — who owns the promoter, who produces the festival, and who owns the ground it stands on — and the popular answer collapses them into one word. AEG's own releases keep the three apart, and so does this page.

In short
Yes: AEG Presents owns Goldenvoice, per AEG's own official release, and AEG Presents is a subsidiary of Anschutz Entertainment Group. Goldenvoice produces Coachella (and Stagecoach) at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. But Goldenvoice does not own the festival site: the Empire Polo Club is owned by the Haagen family, and Goldenvoice holds long-term, year-round operational control of it under a 2021 agreement announced by AEG. Promoter ownership, festival production and site ownership are three different relationships, and collapsing them is how most published answers go wrong.
“Who owns Coachella” is one of those queries where the shortest true answer and the most common answer diverge. The common answer — AEG — is not wrong so much as unfinished: it names the top of a chain whose middle and bottom links carry different verbs, and the bottom link belongs to a family that has never sold.
The promoter chain: Anschutz → AEG Presents → Goldenvoice
AEG's own corporate releases state the chain plainly: Goldenvoice is owned by AEG Presents, and AEG Presents is a subsidiary of Anschutz Entertainment Group. Goldenvoice retains its name, its Los Angeles identity and its booking operation, but it is a wholly held part of the AEG family — the same family compared structurally against Live Nation in Live Nation vs AEG.
Production: Goldenvoice makes the festival
Goldenvoice produces Coachella and Stagecoach at the Empire Polo Club. Producing a festival is an operational relationship — booking, staging, selling and running the event — and it is the verb that connects the promoter to the weekend, not to the land. The festival's own record in the industry register carries this relationship with its evidence.
The ground: owned by the Haagen family, operated by Goldenvoice
The Empire Polo Club — the Indio site on which Coachella stands — is owned by the Haagen family, per AEG's official release announcing the 2021 agreement under which Goldenvoice assumed long-term, year-round operational control of the property. Goldenvoice operates the site; it does not own it. The structure mirrors what this publication documents at Red Rocks: the party whose name is on the event is not necessarily the party on the deed, and the difference is a lease or agreement with terms, a counterparty and an expiry.
Why the three verbs matter
A promoter that owns its festival but not its site carries renewal risk on the ground it built its franchise on; a site owner with a single dominant tenant carries concentration risk in reverse. Collapsing owns-the-promoter, produces-the-festival and operates-the-site into “owns Coachella” erases exactly the structure that determines who holds leverage when the agreement ends. The control stack below renders each role with its source, which is the entire method of this page.

Research notes and limitations
This page documents the roles stated in AEG's official releases: promoter ownership, corporate parentage, festival production, site ownership and site operation. It does not state the term, financial conditions or renewal provisions of the Empire Polo Club agreement, which the cited release does not disclose, and it does not document Coachella's internal financial structure, which no party publishes.
