Who Owns AXS? AEG's Ticketing Division, and the Clients It Is Not

AXS is the second name in American primary ticketing, and its ownership is the least ambiguous fact in this series: AEG owns it outright. The confusion begins one level down, where a client list that includes some of the best-known venues in the country gets read as a portfolio. It is not a portfolio. It is a book of contracts, and contracts expire.

AEG → AXS, wholly owned

AEG's own press materials describe AXS as a wholly owned subsidiary and as the global ticketing division of AEG. That is the complete ownership chain: a single link, first-party sourced, with no minority holder disclosed. The register record at AXS carries the same relationship in structured form, including AEG's 2019 purchase of the remaining Outbox shares that made the subsidiary wholly owned.

A ticketing client is not an owned asset

AXS ticket sales run for venues and events across the United States and Europe. Red Rocks Amphitheatre appears among them, and Red Rocks is municipal property — owned and operated by the City and County of Denver, as documented in who owns Red Rocks. Coachella and Stagecoach also appear, and those are produced by Goldenvoice, which AEG Presents owns; there the ownership is real, but it runs through the promoter, not through the ticketing platform. Reading a client list as a balance sheet produces a systematically wrong map of who controls American live music.

Vertical integration, and where it stops

Owning the ticketing system alongside the promoter and the buildings is the structure that makes both major families comparable, and the comparison is drawn edge by edge in Live Nation vs AEG. The mirror case is Ticketmaster, a wholly owned subsidiary of Live Nation since 2010. Two ticketing platforms, two corporate parents, two very different litigation histories — and in both cases, a client list far larger than the owned estate.

Partnerships are a third category

AEG also announces ticketing partnerships, such as the strategic arrangement with SISTIC in Singapore. A partnership is neither ownership nor a standard client contract, and Live Index records it as its own relationship type rather than folding it into either.
