Who Owns Lollapalooza? The Producer Is Controlled; the Brand Is Not Disclosed
The 2014 announcement that brought C3 Presents into Live Nation used two different verbs for two different festivals. Reading them carefully is the whole of this page.

In short
Lollapalooza is produced by C3 Presents, and Live Nation Entertainment holds a controlling stake in C3 — the acquisition completed in December 2014. That makes Lollapalooza a festival under Live Nation's corporate control. It does not, on the cited record, make Live Nation the owner of the Lollapalooza brand: the same announcement describes C3 as producing Lollapalooza while separately describing it as owning and operating Austin City Limits, and no source cited here discloses who holds the Lollapalooza name and intellectual property, or in what proportions.
Ownership questions about Lollapalooza almost always resolve to a single name, and the name is right about the corporate layer and silent about the asset. Live Nation controls the company that produces the festival. Whether Live Nation owns the festival itself — the name, the marks, the franchise that licenses editions in South America and Europe — is a separate question that the cited public record does not answer.
December 2014: a controlling stake in C3 Presents
Live Nation announced on 19 December 2014 that it had completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in C3 Presents, the Austin promoter founded by Charlie Jones, Charles Attal and Charlie Walker. That establishes corporate control of the producer. It does not disclose a percentage, and the announcement does not state the consideration in terms this page can verify.
Two festivals, two verbs, in one announcement
The same release describes C3 as producing Lollapalooza, and separately describes C3 as owning and operating the Austin City Limits Music Festival. A company that drafts both sentences in one document is distinguishing between them deliberately. Live Index therefore treats the Austin City Limits chain as one link stronger — the argument is set out in who owns Austin City Limits — and declines to upgrade “produces” into “owns” for Lollapalooza.
Why the distinction has consequences
A festival brand held outside the producing company is a licensable asset with its own economics: a royalty on international editions, a veto on how the name is used, and a residual value that survives any given promoter relationship. A producer with a controlling corporate parent captures the operating margin, which is a different claim on the cash. Anyone valuing the franchise needs to know which is which, and the public record here supports only the operating layer.
Where Lollapalooza sits in the consolidation record
The C3 transaction belongs to the same acquisition wave as the Bonnaroo controlling interest and is catalogued in the festival ownership map. Structured relationship records for the festival and its producer sit in the register at Lollapalooza and C3 Presents.
Ownership chain
Lollapalooza: the chain, link by link
The documented chain stops one link short of the festival brand. Live Nation's control of the producer is established; separate ownership of the Lollapalooza name and intellectual property is not disclosed in the cited record.

Research notes and limitations
This page establishes Live Nation's controlling stake in C3 Presents and C3's production of Lollapalooza, both from the December 2014 announcement. It does not establish ownership of the Lollapalooza brand or intellectual property, the equity percentage Live Nation holds in C3, the terms of the international licensing editions, or any interest retained by the festival's founders. Those remain undisclosed in the record cited here.
