U.S. Concert Ticket Sales by Year, 2000–2025: What the Public Record Actually Measures
There is no complete annual census here. These are published Pollstar touring cohorts: a historical Top 100, a revised Top 100, a disrupted pandemic year, a Top 200, and later Top 100 summaries.

Central finding
There is no single continuous public count of every U.S. concert ticket sold from 2000 to 2025. Pollstar’s long-running North American touring series tracks ranked reporting cohorts, not all U.S. events. Its chart calendar, estimate policy and ranking scope have changed. The published observations are useful precisely when their breaks and missing years stay visible.

The near years are larger in this projected landscape; the underlying observations are North American reporting cohorts, not a U.S. census.

The answer depends on which tours were counted
A ticket sold is an admission count. Gross is reported box-office revenue. Average ticket price is a quotient within the reported population, not necessarily what every fan paid after fees. Pollstar’s year-end North American Top 100 documents the largest reported tours, not every venue or every concert. North America is not U.S.-only. These distinctions matter most when a single series is presented as total U.S. market sales: neither geography nor reporting coverage would support that claim. 1
The 2016-published history: one defined cohort
The historical table below transcribes the 2016 year-end publication. Tickets are millions, gross billions of dollars, and average ticket price dollars. Each cell belongs to the same publication. Values are not inflation-adjusted, and a rise in gross does not establish a rise in total concerts or attendance outside the reporting cohort. The figure instrument keeps each year as a persistent observation when the measure changes. 1

The revision seam is part of the evidence
Pollstar changed its year-end eligibility from a calendar year to a late-November cutoff in 2018 and discontinued routine estimates for dates not reported. Earlier published years cannot simply be joined to the later regime. This page leaves 2017 and 2018 without a North American value rather than importing a worldwide figure. The break is a change in how observations enter the chart, not an estimate of how many tickets vanished. 12

Pandemic and post-pandemic reporting is not one seamless line
Pollstar reports $3.7 billion gross and 39.2 million tickets for 2019, then $818 million gross and 9 million tickets for its 2020 North American Top 100: a pandemic-disrupted observation, not normal capacity. The 2021 year-end coverage describes a partial-market rebound but supplies no comparable point used in this table. Omitting a plotted 2021 point is more accurate than estimating one from adjacent years. 34
In 2022 Pollstar foregrounded a North American Top 200 cohort: $5.6 billion gross, 54.5 million tickets and a $103.71 average ticket. A Top 200 is not a continuation of a Top 100. In 2023 the reported Top 100 had $6.63 billion gross, 48.8 million tickets and a $135.88 average; in 2024, $6.18 billion gross, 45,306,074 tickets and a $136.45 average. 567
The 2025 account reports $5.8 billion Top 100 gross and a $134.23 average ticket against $136.45 in 2024. It describes ticket sales as down 5% year on year and 10% above 2019. Those are rounded comparisons, not an absolute 2025 ticket count; backing a count out of them would create false precision. 8
Method: preserve vintages, labels and gaps
Each row is attributed to its publication year, reported unit and cohort. The instrument changes the visual measure while keeping each year keyed to its source and cohort. No trajectory crosses the 2018 methodology break, 2021 gap or Top 200 boundary. Nominal average price is not a fee-inclusive checkout price or a constant-quality ticket index. For sparse historical price observations see ticket price history; for the difference between box office and market size see what is actually measured.
Research notes and limitations
These are reported touring cohorts, not a U.S. market census. The 2018 methodology break interrupts continuity, 2020 is pandemic-disrupted, 2021 lacks a comparable point, 2022 is Top 200, and 2025 lacks an exact ticket count in the cited summary. No values are interpolated.
