This is a selected field guide, an operator map rather than a ranking. Entries were chosen for long-running scene credibility, distinct taste, influence on mid-tier rooms or festivals, regional market-building, an independent or independent-rooted history, and public sourcing that can be checked. Groups are by market and function; order within them is not a judgment.
Role labels are kept literal. A promoter takes the financial risk on a show; a talent buyer makes the offers for a room or festival; a festival producer builds and runs the event; a venue operator runs the building; a production lead delivers stages, power and logistics; a manager represents artists and, in a few cases here, also buys talent.
Some of the people listed have died, and some companies now sit inside larger corporate networks: Goldenvoice within AEG, and Bowery Presents through its AEG partnership. They are included because their curatorial identity shaped the path from independent club to mid-tier venue and festival, the layer of the market that sits beneath Live Nation’s scale.
