Why this segment exists
Live performance generates royalty income for songwriters and publishers through performance licences paid by venues, promoters and festivals. That income is a small share of most publishing businesses and a real one, and it is the only mechanism by which a listed rights company has direct live exposure.
This is the segment where the live-attributable cap matters most. A rights company's total market capitalisation is overwhelmingly recorded-music and catalogue exposure; admitting it at full weight would swamp an index intended to describe live activity. The methodology therefore caps the attributable portion rather than admitting or excluding the whole company.
Eligibility
A company is assigned here when all hold
- The company discloses performance-licence, live-synchronisation or comparable live-attributable royalty revenue.
- The live-attributable portion can be isolated from recorded and streaming income in the disclosure.
Outside the boundary
- Streaming platforms are excluded; a stream is not a live performance.
- Recorded-music labels with no disclosed live-attributable royalty line are excluded.
