In the Live Index framework

Take rate is the central economic variable in the ticketing segment. A ticketing company's revenue is not the ticket price; it is the fees charged on top of, and occasionally out of, that price. Volume and take rate together determine the segment's revenue, and they can move in opposite directions.

The measure is harder to read than it looks. Fees are split across service charges, facility charges, order processing and delivery, and only some of them are retained by the ticketing company; facility charges typically flow to the venue. A take rate computed from the full fee stack overstates the intermediary's economics, and one computed from the service charge alone may understate them.

Live Index treats take rate as a disclosed or documented figure, not a derived one. Where the split between retained and passed-through fees is not documented, the take rate is recorded as unmeasured.
