In the Live Index framework
An equity index can only describe the listed portion of an industry. In live music that portion is a minority of activity: some of the largest promoters, venue operators and production suppliers are privately held, sponsor-owned or family-controlled. An index that ignored them would produce a confident picture of a market it had only partly observed.
The private register exists so the unobserved portion is named rather than assumed away. Each record describes what the company does and why it matters to the listed read, and links to the sourced relationship record in the existing Live Index industry register rather than duplicating it.
The register makes no claim about the private share of any segment. A statement like 'most of this segment is privately held' is a measurement, and Live Index does not publish it without a source that supports it.
