Conflicts, governance and the limits of this vertical

A publication that describes companies by name owes its readers an account of what it stands to gain. This page states that account for the equity vertical.

Not investment advice

Nothing in this vertical is investment advice, a recommendation, an offer, or a solicitation. The purpose of the work is to describe how live-music revenue is distributed across companies, which is a question about industry structure and not about whether a security is worth owning.

No index level has been released. Where a page says a series is not released, that is a statement of fact about the data, not a placeholder for a figure available elsewhere on the site.

Standing rules

  • Live Index does not accept payment from any company for inclusion in, exclusion from, or placement within the index, a segment, the private register or any glossary entry.
  • Eligibility follows the published methodology. A company that meets the rule enters regardless of its relationship to Live Index; one that does not meet it cannot be admitted by request.
  • Where a contributor holds a position in a named company, that holding is disclosed on the page carrying their byline, and the contributor does not decide that company's eligibility.
  • Live Index does not run a fund, manage money, license the index for a tradeable product, or receive index-linked fees. If any of that changes, this page changes first.
  • Source data licensed from third parties is used under its own terms; Live Index does not relicense it.

Methodology governance

The construction rule is versioned. A change that would alter a published level is issued as a new version with an effective date, and the prior version remains readable, because a rule that can be edited quietly is not a rule.

Discretion is bounded: the methodology names the few places where judgement is exercised, chiefly the classification of conglomerates and the treatment of an ambiguous corporate action, and requires the reasoning to be recorded on the affected record.

Corrections and revisions

A factual error in a company or private record is corrected on the record, dated, and described. A revision arising from a restated source figure is treated as a revision rather than a correction, and both the original and revised figures are retained with their periods.

Corrections for this vertical follow the site-wide policy. There is no separate standard for company pages, because a lower standard applied to named companies is exactly where a publication loses the right to name them.
