Market coverage and release status

Coverage before certainty. Every market states what it has collected, what it still lacks, and whether anything has been released.

The Live Music Pulse is unreleased. It will publish its first reading only when twelve months of qualifying observations exist across at least eight qualified markets and all five components are valid.

Initial market cohort

Twelve metropolitan markets form the initial cohort. Houston is the flagship: it is built first, audited hardest, and used to prove the collection standard before any market is added.

Coverage thresholds

A market publishes a figure only when all five conditions hold for the period. Failing any one of them means the market reports its coverage state instead of a number.

  • At least 30 eligible observations
  • At least 10 contributing panel venues
  • At least 3 capacity bands represented
  • No single venue above 20 percent of observations
  • No single band above 50 percent of observations

A national figure additionally requires 8 qualified markets and is the median of qualified market values, one vote per market.

Coverage labels

High coverage
50 or more eligible observations, 15 or more venues, 4 or more capacity bands.
Moderate coverage
30–49 eligible observations, 10 or more venues, 3 or more capacity bands.
Limited coverage
Some conditions met, but below the minimum publication threshold.
Insufficient data
Well below the minimum publication threshold. No figure is published.

Coverage definitions are versioned (v1.0). Changing one is a methodology revision and is logged as such.

Capacity bands

The panel must span all five bands so the measure describes the whole market rather than the arena tier that dominates trade reporting.

AUnder 500
Small rooms, developing and local artists, lowest entry prices.
B500–1,499
Club tier; the working floor of touring.
C1,500–4,999
Mid-size halls, ballrooms and theatres.
D5,000–14,999
Amphitheatres and large halls.
E15,000 and above
Arenas and stadiums; highest prices, lowest event counts.
